December Blog
Hours: 5
Cummalative total: 12This month was such a beautiful way to end the semester. I spent about 3 hours doing Christmas cards for the elderly. I purchased my own stickers and markers to make it more authentic and thoughtful. The picture attached to this blog shows the cute stickers I purchased. I added very encouraging and uplifting messages so that they are reminded that they are thought of. I also began volunteering at New Orleans Rescue Mission, which is a homeless shelter. I started volunteering there early this month. They have many projects to be involved in but considering we have classes during the day, I signed up for serving dinner for 2 hours. I am going to continue to do this next semester as everyone who coordinates that program is so kind and passionate about what they do. I was given a tour initially explaining the different ways to get involved and after meeting everyone I realized this is the perfect place to give back to the community. Following this tour, I began that same week. They also begin every dinner with a service from a pastor since its right next to church. The coordinator told me they do that to encourage and uplift the community, which I found to be a great way to incorporate religion.
Also when talking about the curriculum, the Cancer and GI unit was so fascinating to me. Especially the cancer unit since I have had family who went through chemotherapy and I was wondered why the side effects of it was so drastic. Now I have a better understanding of why. Overall I am very happy with how the semester ended and I have learned a lot on how to better my study skills throughout the semester!
